Abstract

The CryptoPUF project addresses the security challenges faced by highly resource-constrained edge devices, such as battery-powered sensors and those utilizing energy harvesting techniques like UHF RFID. Such devices often lack advanced processing capabilities and operate under stringent power limitations, presenting unique challenges in data processing, integrity maintenance, and secure connectivity to the cloud. This proposal will use cryptography to enhance the functionality of a Physically Unclonable Function (PUF) as well as use a PUF to enhanced cryptography for security at the edge. The project intends to develop and implement a PUF-optimized cryptographic framework that minimizes power consumption while enhancing security against physical and network-based attacks. Key tasks include the design and analysis of a PUF suitable for crypto applications, development of a lightweight cryptographic core capable of offloading computational demands to servers, and the integration of these technologies for broader application to edge devices. The project will provide a cryptographic scheme, security assessments, robustness against advanced attack vectors, and hardware prototypes.
